2. What types of boats are available in the fleet?
Lake Effects Boat Club carries new boats that are replaced every one to two years, with most replaced annually. We are unique in the quality of boats we provide. While many clubs offer basic models, we focus on higher-end options such as the M-Series Bennington with up to 250hp motors, the Four Winns HD8 (a 28-foot luxury ski boat), and the legendary MasterCraft XT24.
Another great benefit is that we keep backup boats for all levels. If your MasterCraft experiences an issue mid-day, our team can bring you another one. Boat with confidence at Lake Effects Boat Club!

3. How does the reservation system work?
We have an online reservation system that allows members to book up to 45 days in advance. Same-day reservations are available and easy to secure. You may hold up to four reservations at one time, and there is no limit on how often you can go out. There are no cancelation fees if you cannot make your reservation. Were laid back and want you to enjoy the freedom of using the boats at your leisure.

4. Are there usage restrictions (holidays, weekends, time blocks)?
Boats are available year-round. We know holidays are moments you want to enjoy with family. With Lake Effects, you can boat as early as 9 a.m. and stay out until 9 p.m., giving you plenty of time for a sunset cruise or dinner on the water.

5. What’s included in the membership?
One-on-one training! We meet you where you are—some members are certified captains, while others have never driven a boat. We’re here to ensure you feel comfortable on Lake Norman.
We provide insurance with a $5,000 deductible, and a zero-deductible option is available for a small fee.
There are no cleaning, maintenance, or storage fees. We clean each boat after every use to a high standard. Your only expenses are your monthly dues and the fuel you use during each reservation.

6. Do I need boating experience or a license to join?
We provide full training for new members and their families. We want you to feel safe and confident on the water.
Any operator must have a boater’s license if born after January 1, 1988.

7. How does a boat club compare to renting or owning a boat?
Boat clubs offer a far less frustrating and more cost-effective experience than owning a boat. Our monthly dues are lower than the cost of in-water storage on Lake Norman alone. Most marinas charge around $5,000 per slip annually, plus $2,000 per year for maintenance, winterization, and insurance. Especially with boats such as our Mastercraft XT24 models which are $200,000 and would have a payment of over $2,000 per month!
A boat club is the most affordable way to enjoy Lake Norman—and you get to enjoy a variety of boats to fit your lifestyle.

8. Can I take the boats anywhere on Lake Norman?
You can take our boats anywhere on Lake Norman up to Waterside Bar & Grill. Beyond Waterside, you enter the Catawba River, which becomes shallow and dangerous.

9. How does the club maintain its fleet?
Lake Effects maintains the highest standards for cleanliness and maintenance. Our large fleet of backup boats allows us to service vessels while keeping the full fleet available. Each boat is inspected and thoroughly cleaned after every use.

10. Are there guest policies?
You are welcome to bring friends and family—just follow the recommended capacity limits for each boat.

11. Which marina locations do Lake Effects Boat Clubs operate from?
